Why we scan instead of taking impressions

Goodbye to the tray of putty. What intraoral scanning changed for accuracy, comfort and the number of visits you make.

Why we scan instead of taking impressions

If you have not been to a dentist in a few years, the tray of putty is the memory you are dreading. We stopped using it for most work some time ago.

What a scan is

A small wand passes over your teeth and builds a 3D model on screen in a couple of minutes. No tray, no gagging, no waiting for material to set. You watch your own teeth appear in front of you.

Why it is more accurate

Conventional impression material distorts slightly as it sets and again as it travels to the laboratory. A digital file does not distort at all. For implant work, where margins are measured in fractions of a millimetre, that matters.

Why it saves you visits

The file goes to the laboratory the moment the scan finishes. There is no courier, no plaster model to pour, and no remake because the impression pulled. Fewer failed fittings means fewer appointments.

What it enables

Because the model is digital, we can design your restoration against it, simulate the result, and show you the outcome before starting. Guided implant surgery uses the same file merged with your CBCT scan — the drill position is planned on a computer, not judged by eye.

It is a quieter kind of progress than most dental marketing suggests. It simply makes the work more predictable, and your visits shorter.
